Scarlett meets Joe, a handsome and rich man from America, on the train back to Poka Village after buying a sheep. Joe, who says that Poka Village was his birthplace, buys a house on the hill where he will live. Scarlett's brother, Bernie, who had planned to marry Ginny, the most beautiful girl in the village, and live in that house on the hill, does not like Joe and confronts him at every turn.
