MangaBaka's mission is to build the best open manga database and tracking platform, run transparently, by and for the community.

We believe data should be open by default. That's why all community-contributed data is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Anyone can use it for personal, educational, and open-source purposes, as long as derivatives are shared under the same license. We'll always provide a free database download for bulk access.

But running a project like this isn't free. Servers, bandwidth, development tools, and infrastructure all cost money, and that cost grows as the database and community grow.

That's where the NonCommercial clause comes in. Any revenue from commercial licensing goes directly towards covering hosting costs, infrastructure, development, and data moderation. MangaBaka is not a company. It's a community project run by volunteers trying to sustain something we all care about.

All finances are managed through OpenCollective, which means every transaction, every expense and every contribution, is publicly visible. You can see exactly where the money goes on our finances page. No hidden accounts, no mystery spending. Full transparency, always.
