Risako Maejima (39) became a single mother six years ago. As she spends her days busy with work and childcare, she is healed by her son Yuta's smile. "As long as Yuta's smile is protected, nothing else is needed..." One day, a man moves into the apartment next door where Risako lives. The man's name is Ryo Azuma. He is tough-looking, and he always has a lot of nasty-looking men with him...could he be a yakuza?! "I'll protect Yuta!" Risako is becoming increasingly wary, but she finds herself drawn to the kindness of Azuma, who offers her a helping hand when she is in trouble... This love story depicts the wavering love of a woman in her twilight years, both as a mother and as a woman. ※ This work is a comic adaptation of "Unless You Are A Bottle Of Wine -Single Mother and Intellectual Yakuza, Sometimes, Love-," which is popular on the novel submission site "Everystar".
A mother who killed her own child and committed suicide. A cold father who is absorbed in her work and doesn't care about her daughters. Murasaki and Kaho, twin high school sisters with such parents, lived in a small world isolated from society. One day, on a street corner, Hanaho meets a mysterious young man who disguises himself as a pastor, calls himself "Master,'' and runs the religious organization "Mary Magdalene.'' Kaho leaves home and travels around Japan with the young man. However, the young man was also a swindler who sold tap water as the water of life. Still, she ends up following him. I felt like he could take me somewhere other than here. *Note: This manga was inspired by the real pseudo-religion/cult named "Jesus' Ark".*
In 1963, it won the 8th Shogakukan Manga Award with "Tebukuro Tetchan"
