Maria Egi loses her parents while she was still young, but she is supposed to inherit the property from her grandfather when she becomes an adult. But her aunt, Masato Shido steps in and claims to be her guardian, so Maria is forced to live with her and her son, Ichiro, and daughter, Setsuko. On the day Maria's boyfriend Keiichi Ogi, the son of a banker, is coming to propose marriage, Maria stabs her cousin Ichiro when he tries to rape her. She is sent to a juvenile detention center due to the manipulations of Imai, a lawyer who is working for her aunt. It's all a plot by her aunt's family to steal the inheritance that was supposed to belong to Maria according to her grandfather's will. Inside the detention center, Maria is relentlessly bullied, abused, has her food stolen, and is even forced to tattoo a black rose on her left shoulder. She finally realizes that the world is not kind, and that she won't survive if she remains quiet and obedient.
