The Devil's Diary
During the Japanese occupation of Korea, a child is born into a devout Christian family. Astonishingly, he bears the number 666, the mark of the Devil. Fearing that his son's ominous appearance will bring misfortune upon the family, his father, a pastor, decides to abandon him. Unable to bring herself to leave her newborn behind, however, his mother hides him in the attic and raises him in secret, away from prying eyes.
Growing up with an innocent heart, the boy learns to write from a young girl who shares his love of words. When Korea is liberated from Japanese rule, he witnesses the fierce ideological clashes between left and right, as well as his family and fellow villagers joining the National Bodo League, an organisation that would become associated with one of the most tragic massacres of civilians in modern Korean history.
