Brittany, early 13th century France. Thomas, a soldier, travels the battlefield but can't stand on his own two feet. At the end of a battle, his wounded lord entrusts him with his next mission: to find a bride for his lord, the Duke of Brittany.

To this end, he travels to a knightly tournament to meet the bride's father, Sir André, an old friend of the lord's, but what awaits him is someone else entirely with the name André.
