Cult Mura no Komoriuta

How did a village that was formerly free get wrapped up in a cult? Prior to this, the village was a lot more lenient, and eveything from alcohol, cigarettes, television, comics, and video games were allowed. People were even allowed to leave the village to go to a hot spring or go shopping for Christmas presents at a department store. Some even remembered going to get Hikaru Utada's latest CD... But one day, a new village leader arose, and transformed the village into that of a nightmare. Under the new leader, parents and children were separated and had to live apart from each other, kids were forced to wake up at 5:30 AM every morning to do hard manual labor, two people now had to share a single futon, everyone was now allowed to eat only twice a day, all clothes became hand-me-downs because no one had sole ownership of anything, men and boys were forced to have buzz cuts while women and girls had to have short-cut hair, any money you have would now get immediately confiscated, and corporal punishment became a given.
