Tokyo Hanzai Monogatari: Bosatsu to Fudou

Masato Date, who had been assigned to the Yamanote Police Station, was a sensitive soul, the kind who would tear up while reading children’s picture books. Date was immediately assigned to escort a man suspected of murder, but the suspect began complaining of stomach pain. His partner, veteran detective Hirai, dismissed it as a lie, but Date persuaded him that it didn’t seem like an act and took the suspect to the hospital. However, the stomach pain turned out to be a ruse; the suspect took a doctor hostage, and Date ended up letting the criminal escape. Date was dejected, convinced he wasn’t cut out to be a detective. But after putting himself in the suspect’s shoes, he deduced that the suspect would definitely show up at a certain woman’s house one day. When Date and Hirai staked out the house, the suspect appeared exactly as Date had predicted.
