Official announcements and news from MangaBaka
We're excited to announce the new [MangaBaka Forum](/forum) (beta) ### _Why a forum_ and why _now_? For the first ~18 months of the MangaBaka project our feedback and bug tracking was handled on [Discord](/discord) in our `#inbox` channel, but as we continue to grow our community, the ticket volume and the *many* Discord limitations in their "Forum" channels made it pretty painful to deal with for everyone involved. - Limited search and filtering - No notifications when tickets were closed or changed. - No (easy) way to see your own posts - Scrolling 100s of posts down in the list could sometimes just start repeating previously shown posts or often lose scroll position entirely, forcing you to start over - Race-conditions when updating tags for a post too fast - Unstructured ticket format (often with missing data) - No way to merge duplicate posts #### Whats _NOT_ changing First and foremost, we do **NOT** plan to stop or discourage discussions on Discord - the forum is meant to be a common ground where everyone (also people who don't like Discord) can post and contribute to conversations. Both real time quick chat and slower thoughtful (hopefully!) forum posts are great for collaboration, so we want to continue using both. The forum will be the canonical durable source of truth - Discord will be treated as ad-hoc and ephemeral, with decisions and outcomes recorded on the forum as needed. #### What _ISN'T_ changing today - `#discussions` will remain open and active for the foreseeable future - [Data forum](/forum/mangabaka/data) can also be used for these going forward - We won't be adding a new `social` community forum at this time #### What _IS_ changing today > [!NOTE] > You need to have a public username to **post** in the forum, once you have made a post, you can no longer make your profile anonymous again - this is to help avoid abuse and impersonation. > > You can read the forum and vote without a username. - The Forum is launched in _beta_ - `#inbox` - is archived and made read-only - [Inbox forum](/forum/mangabaka/inbox) is the new home for (technical) bugs, feature requests, improvements and questions. - existing posts will **NOT** be migrated - please make sure to repost those you want keep - `#data-fixes` - is archived and made read-only - [Data forum](/forum/mangabaka/data) is the new home for these (ideally you [make a submission instead](/data/submissions)) - existing posts will **NOT** be migrated - please make sure to repost those you want keep - `#data-quests` - is archived and made read-only - [Data forum](/forum/mangabaka/data) is the new home for these - existing posts will **NOT** be migrated - please make sure to repost those you want keep - `#data-upstream` - is archived and made read-only - [Data forum](/forum/mangabaka/data) is the new home for these - existing posts will **NOT** be migrated - please make sure to repost those you want keep #### What can the new forum do? - Decent search and flexible tag filtering (we _do_ like our search and filtering!) - Ability to subscribe to posts (notifications on Web and Discord) - All Activity - Status + Replies - Status only - Easy way to find your own posts or posts you're subscribed to - No race conditions when saving data - Guided and detailed step-by-step on how to make a good forum post (per post type we support) - Moderators can merge posts when there are duplicates - We have a "new post" system to suggest possible duplicate posts to help avoid this, but its not perfect - Moderators can move posts between forums if you accidentally post in the wrong place We also added the ability to [add a profile picture](/my/settings/profile) to your profile, to make it a bit more personalized. #### The new editor The new editor can also do a couple of tricks, like `MB!222` gives you MB!222 directly in the your post or comment, while `MB!222` on its own line will show it like below MB!222 _(Don't worry, the `MB!` has auto-completed search, you don't need to remember the series IDs)_ It also works for `https://mangabaka.org/manga/222/The-Apothecary-Diaries` links directly and even known tracker links like `https://anilist.co/manga/99022` You can also reference other posts via `POST!4` will show up like this: POST!4 There is a lot of cool stuff we can do with this in the long term, and I didn't cover all of the stuff here, I leave some of them for you to discover on your own!
