The day of the junior ball has arrived. Octavia is determined to succeed in her plan to find a (fake) boyfriend. However, the ball may turn out to be more than she bargained for. Sil quite literally crashes the party, Derek Nightfellow confronts her to clear up his suspicions, and Countess Reddington is pulling strings to suit her own schemes. And to make things even worse, Sirius has her bodyguard Klifford detained for allegedly orchestrating Sil’s carriage accident. Can Octavia clear Klifford’s name in time? Or is there something bigger at play…?

Octavia’s search for a (pretend) lover came right down to the wire. Out of time and options, she had no choice but to claim that her lover was none other than her bodyguard, Klifford. Thankfully he went along with the ruse, and the King seems to have bought it! But her father has a stipulation for acknowledging their relationship: an additional knight must be assigned to guard the pair. With a major political event around the corner, she’ll just have to deal with it, but she sure has mixed feelings. Octavia recalls that, in the original story, the event coincided with a love potion incident—and she’ll do everything she can to avoid it!
