-Yuki, a young deaf girl, is destined to lead her village, inheriting a long lineage. This includes her former friend Dai, who believes himself more capable of being leader and makes her life difficult. One day, Yuki meets the real Hakutaku in the woods. Far from being a monster, it protects the village from hostile forces and can even communicate with her through telepathy. As a storm approaches, Yuki and the Hakutaku join forces to save the village and to challenge the unfounded beliefs of its people.
