Although not related by blood, Kingo and Kayano have grown up together in an orphanage and are the closest thing either of them has to a family. When it seems that their dreams of being adopted are about to come true, their new parents turn out to be Jinka! Just as Kingo is about to be eaten, a Jinka blooms in Kayano…but her Jinka is very different. It doesn’t attempt to hurt Kingo or other humans. Kingo must do everything he can to keep his sister’s affliction a secret so she doesn’t get pruned. One day, while working as a lowly grunt for the Flower Funeral Forces, Kingo gets an alert about a Jinka near his apartment. He rushes to the scene to find Kayano surrounded, and earns himself a bullet through the head for trying to save her. But when he wakes up, he’s in a mysterious pruning facility, his sister is gone, and he is now infected with a Jinka himself—Kayano.
Kingo is devastated that Kayano is not only gone, but is now a Jinka possessing his body. But not all is lost. Makino, a researcher from the Flower Funeral Corps, informs him that it may be possible for him to not only return himself to normal, but to bring Kayano back to life using the Mother Jinka―the very first Jinka to appear, rooted around Tokyo Tower. However, the Special Flower Funeral Forces is hot on Kingo’s and Makino’s trail. But running from them may not be what they need when the Special Flower Funeral Forces itself is the fastest ticket to getting close to the Mother Jinka.
Kingo joined the 7th Special Flower Funeral Forces in hopes of finding a way to turn Kayano back into a human. Makoto, the most senior member of Kingo’s squad, as well as Kingo and Ayari, take down a Jinka that can create illusions and control their emotions and minds. After the difficult and emotional battle, Kingo and the others return to see Makino’s corpse lying at the feet of the Funeral Director, who claims that Makino had been betraying them the entire time and was secretly a Jinka!
As a member of the 7th Squad of the Special Flower Funeral Forces, Kingo learns that the Jinka were created by a secret organization hidden within the Special Flower Funeral Forces known as the Black Lily. He is also warned that they are targeting Kayano, who is alive inside his body as a Jinka. In order to catch the Black Lily and force them to make Kayano human again, he must first take the qualification test administered by the Special Flower Funeral Forces's HQ.
In order to become official members of the Special Flower Funeral Corps, Kingo and Ayari must take the selection exam—even as they secretly work to uncover the identities of the Black Lily, an organization that may be behind the creation of the Jinka. The exam’s survival phase has hopefuls fight Jinka, but there’s something odd about the Jinka they’re fighting—they aren’t mechanical or random people pulled off the streets, but senior members of their own squads whose Jinka weapons are consuming them! Kingo and Ayari must prepare to fight their friend, Squad 7’s Makoto, to the death!
Kingo and Ayari take the selection exam in hopes of becoming members of the Special Flower Funeral Forces and to dredge up the evil roots within the organization known as the Black Lily. But first, they must face off against their senior squad member and mentor, who has been consumed by the Jinka in his weapon. Killing him is their only option if they want to continue their mission. Meanwhile, at the core of the testing facility, the Black Lily starts to stir up trouble…
Kingo and the surviving members of the Special Flower Funeral Force chase the Black Lily into the Forbidden Zone. Kayano, trapped within the mother Jinka, is forced to watch the bloodshed ravaging Japan. The battle for survival between humanity and Jinka ends with this final volume!
