“From exactly midnight until daybreak, the Namiya General Store advice box will be reopening for one night only.” When three delinquents hole up in an abandoned general store after their most recent robbery, to their great surprise, a letter drops through the mail slot in the store’s shutter. This seemingly simple request for advice sets the trio on a journey of discovery as, over the course of a single night, they step into the role of the kindhearted former shopkeeper who devoted his waning years to offering thoughtful counsel to his correspondents. Through the lens of time, they share insight with those seeking guidance, and by morning, none of their lives will ever be the same. This manga is a story based on a thriller by Keigo Higashino. The main protagonist, the shy Jun Naruse, is a rather average guy who works for an electronics company and loves to paint. He falls in love with Megumi whom he met at an art supplies shop and an intimate relationship develops. Whilst looking for his dream apartment to move into with Megumi the real estate office he is at gets attacked, and when the criminal tries to shoot a little girl, he saves her by jumping in front of her. A month passes until he wakes up again and is told that half his brain got destroyed and he only survived because someone donated half a brain. Everything seems to be fine, he quickly recovers and is happy, however, he begins to change… Is the donated brain the reason for that? Or is it just a side effect of the medicine?
Someone is trying to kill Maejima, the unassuming archery club coach and math teacher at Seika Women's High School. Pure luck has gotten him through several attempts, but he has no idea who's behind it, and the school principal would rather not involve the police in what's surely just a student acting out. With the entire faculty and students as suspects, will Maejima figure out who's responsible before his luck runs out?
