“I want to stay with you forever, even after this curse is broken.” Sakaki Kikka is born into a prestigious family that inherits healing powers, yet she has been abused and treated as worthless all her life. In the mountain capital of Yamato, only those with special abilities can stand against the monstrous ayakashi threatening the land, but Kikka shows no sign of power and is forced to serve as a maid to the tyrant ruler’s younger sister, Botan. One day, after being lured into the forest by one of Botan’s schemes and nearly attacked by an ayakashi, Kikka is saved by a young man named Tōji, whose body is covered in cursed markings. Wary at first, the two slowly begin to open up as they recognize the loneliness in each other and are gradually drawn together. But the ayakashi curse eating away at Tōji spirals out of control, and he begins to transform into a fearsome yaksha.
