Giant Step is a shounen, sports comedy. With it's relation to Prince of Tennis being in some of the art of attacks and their relation to tennis. If you have already read Prince of Tennis or even a little bit of it and it was too serious for you then Giant Step would be good to check out.
The manga revolves about a mermaid named Muromi, her travels and her quirky personality. She speaks with a Hakata dialect and she thinks sea water fish are better than freshwater fish. She has a sweet tooth and loves sake. She's also said to have been living for thousands of years (although she has the appearance of a teenage girl with a fishtail). Join Muromi on her adventure, as she gets caught in high school student Takuro Mukojima's fishing nets, as she meets more friends, new and old, and enjoy their weird but hilarious conversations. Or, you could just watch her bother Takuro on his fishing days with lame gags, just for laughs
The story centres on so-called "Humanized Animals" (HA), genetically engineered hybrids of man and animal who possess extraordinary physical abilities. They show their worth when they are sent to the scenes of massacres to enact the ambitions of other people. The purpose of their creation is tied to a grand plan for humanity's future.
Yachiru is a Hasshakusama youkai living in the human world. Because the prevailing public image of Hasshakusama is that they're lewd (not scary), her powers have weakened and her height has shrunk from its original 8 shaku (240 cm) to about 190 cm. She strives to correct that impression, but each day is another failure. However, while at the cinema to study horror films, she meets Seiichirou, a young man who is a huge fan of Hasshakusama.
