The epitaph holds the key to the history of ancient Korea and the ties between Japan and Korea.

This match is recorded in the "Nihon Shoki," one of the writings that compose the Kiki legends. Within this story, the match is ordered to determine ownership of a specific piece of land. After the match, the story continues with the effects of the outcome on those involved, such as the surviving combatant, the Emperor, the people of Izumo, and the loser's son Isachi.
