The series centers on Makoto Shiranui, a boy who travels to Tokyo seeking to become the apprentice of Mamoru Hoshisato, a world-famous magician and friend of his parents. Ever since he had watched a show by Mamoru and his wife Maive, he had dreamed of being a magician. Their daughter Kana (nicknamed Hatena) has been Makoto's friend since childhood. Even though Tokyo has had a rash of burglaries by a beautiful woman thief, Makoto can rest easy as long as Hatena is there. When he arrives at the Hoshisato residence, a haunted mansion, the family butler Jeeves and the maid Emma greet him, and he is reunited with Hatena, only to find out that they don't really get along now. This is a side story to Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi. It follows the angsty loner Liene, along with her two classmates--big-breasted Clara and cheerful Chiya--as they train to become first-class witches. In order to become a first-class witch of the Temperon Crowley association, they first have to make a contract with a demon, which costs the thing they cherish the most (generally assumed to be a girl's virginity). Liene wants to become a first-class witch so that she might have a chance of meeting the parents who abandoned her as a baby. However, she's going to have to learn that she can't do it alone. She'll have to cooperate with her first real friends, Klara and Chiya, and with her new demon companion Pelty. (Source: MangaHelpers)
The anonymous protagonist is diagnosed with lung carcinoma shortly after his twentieth birthday and is admitted to hospice care at a hospital in Mito, Ibaraki. There he meets Setsumi, a woman who is a few years older than he is, who is also terminally ill. Finding that they both refuse to die in the hospital or at home with their families, they run away together in a silver Honda Integra belonging to the protagonist's father. They travel west across Japan's many highways and prefectures, initially not knowing where to go, but later collectively decide on taking the narcissus fields of southern Awaji Island as a somewhat arbitrary destination.
