The first match of the Shaman Fight has been announced: it’s Joco, Horohoro, and Ren against three of Hao’s servants! Team Ren pulls through after an impressive showing from Joco...but before they’ve had a moment to rejoice, they finally track down Lyserg...clad in the uniform of the X-Laws!
At last, the time has come for Team Funbari Onsen, consisting of Yoh, Ryu, and Faust VIII, to participate in the Shaman Fight. Their opponents are the Icemen, three proud European shamans with excellent teamwork. Manta’s shaking in his boots...but Team Funbari Onsen’s Over Souls have improved by leaps and bounds as a result of their harsh training, and they’re about to let the world know!
Yoh kicks off his tournament run by leading Team Funbari Onsen to a stunning victory…but there’s no time to relax, because it’s time for Hao’s tournament debut, too! His team is facing off against Team X-3, comprised of three of the X-LAWS’ most fearsome shamans…and he’s taking them on all by himself!
Yoh makes a shocking confession, and now his friends wait with bated breath for nightfall, when he’s promised to tell them the whole story. Meanwhile, Yoh’s father, Mickey Asakura, approaches Ren and Horohoro. He knows Hao must be defeated at all costs…and he’s willing to pass on his own secret techniques to Yoh and his friends make it happen!
Assisted by Nickrome, one of the officiants of the Shaman Fight, Hao’s followers attack Team Ren. Joco and Horohoro do their best to defend themselves, but Ren finally steps in…and is mortally wounded. Yoh joins forces with Iron Maiden Jeanne of the X-LAWS to save him…but she’ll only lend him her strength on one condition: as soon as he’s saved Ren, Yoh must withdraw from the tournament!
Yoh withdraws from the Shaman King to save Ren’s life…and once Anna hears the news, she can’t help but remember when Yoh was just ten years old, way back in 1996, and came to Osorezan to see her with the cat spirit Matamune in tow.
The year is 1996, and Yoh Asakura, age ten, meets Anna Kyoyama for the first time. Anna has a gift: she can read others’ minds…whether she wants to or not. And as she and Yoh make their first shrine visit of the new year, suddenly, her gift for reading minds unleashes a fierce oni from within her own heart. Yoh’s going to need Matamune’s help if he wants to save her…but it won’t be easy!
Ren recovers from his wounds with the help of the Iron Maiden Jeanne, leader of the X-Laws…but Hao’s minions are closing in on the Icemen and Horohoro to steal their spirit companions. With his back against the wall, Horohoro remembers his father’s teachings and readies for a battle of wits against Brocken.
Joco falls in battle against Redseb and Seyram, shamans who control a fearsome golem and two members of the shaman team "The Kabbalahers." As Joco breathes his last breath, he remembers what Yoh always says: "If they hit you, hit ’em back." The Kabbalahers stand in triumph, knowing they’ve avenged their father’s death…but then Yoh shows up.
The ghost of Dr. Munzer, Seyram and Redseb’s father, possesses Seyram and attacks Yoh and his friends. Redseb begs his father to stop, but his pleas fall on deaf ears and his father sends Redseb’s own golem after him. Just when it seems like all is lost, reinforcements arrive…in the form of Joco, who’s come back from the dead!
With the raging golem calmed at last, Yoh and the others have a moment to breathe…but then Opacho, Hao’s faithful servant, appears, with a message from the man himself: Yoh needs to re-enter the Shaman Fight…or else! Yoh doesn’t know what to do…until Anna lights a fire under him.
Yoh pleads with the Iron Maiden Jeanne to allow him back into the tournament. Just then, Hao’s servant, Luchist, arrives, intent on removing Jeanne herself from the tournament…by force. After Marco falls, it’s up to Yoh and Lyserg to fight off Luchist.
After Ren and his allies show off their new and improved Over Souls in their match against Team Myooh, Yoh and his friends are champing at the bit to do a little training of their own. But just after Ren takes out his first member, Team Myooh strikes back, defeating Ren and Joco in the blink of an eye. Now Team Ren’s hopes are riding on Horohoro...and his fearsome new Over Soul.
Sati chooses Yoh to become one of the Five Warriors, but first, she needs him to prove he’s got what it takes—in Hell itself! He’ll have to work his way back to the world of the living before he’s strong enough to command the Five High Spirits…and to do that, he’ll need to defeat the spirit of his ancestor, Yohken Asakura, who killed Hao 500 years ago. Meanwhile, Team Acala track down Ren, Joco, and Horohoro, intent on killing them before Yoh can make his return!
Sati Saigan, the leader of the Gandhara, has chosen Yoh and his friends to be the Five Warriors…and forced them to wander the depths of Hell for their training. But while they’re away, Hao attacks the Iron Maiden Jeanne and the others. Anna shows up to save the day…but something’s wrong with her. Can she hold out until Yoh makes it back?!
With Sati Saigan’s blessing, Yoh and his friends return from Hell. But the Oyamadas’ secretary, Midori Tamurazaki, has been working behind the scenes…and he succeeds in assassinating Hao’s followers. Now it’s finally time for Yoh’s team to take on Team Ren. It’s no-holds-barred. Who will emerge victorious?!
The second round of the Shaman Fight is to be held on the Lost Continent of Mu! But Yoh and his friends aren’t the only ones headed for Mu… Manta’s father, Mansumi Oyamada, is en route with a naval escort as well! The rules of the Shaman Fight strictly prohibit outside interference…so Yoh and Hao do the unthinkable and team up to stop them!
The Shaman Fight is over. Hao has emerged victorious…and now he must slumber in order to become one with the Great Spirit. Yoh and his friends make their way through the mazes of the Lost Continent of Mu in an effort to stop him, but when they reach the Plant of the Desert, they’re attacked by Namari, one of the Patch Officiants. After he defeats Ryu, it’s up to Ren and Horohoro to fight him off…but deep in the desert, Horohoro can’t command ice and Ren can’t call down lightning. How can they defend themselves now?
The Iron Maiden Jeanne uses her mana to revive Yoh and his friends, but Hao has many allies among the Patch tribe…and they don’t intend to let anyone through. Hao, on the other hand, has made his way to the final Plant in the heart of the Lost Continent of Mu, and arrived at the Shrine of the King. Does Yoh’s company have any chance of stopping Hao without the Five Elemental Spirits at their command?!
After Hao is crowned the Shaman King, Yoh and his friends fight their way through the Plants of the Lost Continent of Mu, guarded by Hao’s allies among the Patch tribe, to defeat him. But, his mana spent after a flurry of harsh fights, Faust falls in battle. The Gandhara, on the other hand, have made their way to the heart of the Great Spirit, intent on entrusting Yoh and his friends with the Five Elemental Spirits.
Yoh and his friends are nearly out of mana, so they spend a night at Calim’s old house on the Lost Continent of Mu in an effort to recuperate…and to approach their final confrontation with the Patch Officiants with renewed resolve.
Yoh and his friends defeat the Ten Patch Officiants and catch up with Hao. But now that he’s been crowned the Shaman King, they’re no match for him, and he crushes them all in short order. The hopes, dreams and prayers of all the friends they met along the way resurrect the party one last time and they brace for the final showdown with Hao…
