After an emotional good-bye, Subaru Natsuki finally departs from the tower in the desert. Yet fate sweeps him up like a storm, sending him to a land far, far away where a long-hoped-for reunion awaits him. The joy is only momentary, however, as the girl doesn’t remember Subaru and quickly mistakes him for an enemy due to the miasma coming off him. When she flees, a mad chase ensues and forces Subaru deep into an unfamiliar jungle. There, he stumbles across a man who hides his face but not his arrogance…!

Unintentionally sent flying to the Empire of Volakia, Subaru Natsuki reunites with Rem, who has finally woken up again. However, his joy lasts only for a moment before the two of them are pulled into a massive internal struggle embroiling the entire empire. Forced to deal with the deposed emperor, Subaru vows to bring Rem home to the Kingdom of Lugunica by any means necessary. Of course, that’s easier said than done when he gets caught in a spiral of death that is impossible to predict and is the cruel result of decisions he made himself!

Having escaped from this dire situation, she offers to help the group retake the capital on one condition: They must help her launch an assault on the Demon City to secure the Nine Divine Generals. But just before they set out, Subaru wallows in his own powerlessness, only to be confronted by Rem, who rejects outright an idea that has spurred him on all this time…
