Recent high school transfer student Hasegawa Kodaka is pathetically inept at making friends. When he comes across the brash loner Mikazuki Yozora, who typically chats with her imaginary friend, the two outsiders become the unlikeliest of allies. Realizing that they have no hope of a normal social life, the two outcasts decide to form a group called “The Neighbors Club” in order to make friends and maybe even learn a thing or two about social skills. Hasegawa Kodaka, a boy with few friends, along with his beautiful classmate, the oddball Mikazuki Yozora, form the Neighbors Club, a group dedicated to making friends. While this sounds innocent enough, the only people who end up joining the club are total freaks and outcasts. Together, they geek out over RPG games, pit imaginary friends against each other, and wreak havoc in one another’s lives while struggling to build social skills. Meet the Neighbors Club-an unfortunate group of even more unfortunate people trying to make friends by doing things like playing bishoujo games and trying their hand at acting…to no avail. Existing members Mikazuki Yozora and Kashiwazaki Sena (two beautiful girls to be avoided) and Kusunoki Yukimura (a boy dressed as a lovely-and female-maid) are joined by a young nun and a girl genius who push all the limits. How will this affect Hasegawa Kodaka (the only one with common sense, although that doesn’t mean he has any friends either)? And then there’s his little sister, with a look in her eyes that says she’s hatching a sinister plot…!
The anti-social members of the Neighbors Club waste their time playing bishoujo games, playacting, and getting into arguments about the geekiest things. Yet somehow they’ve managed to add seven members to their pathetic ranks. Whether it’s writing a round robin short story together-a seemingly innocent affair until someone goes berserk-or taking things too far in an MMORPG, these freaks take their fantasy seriously. But can a group of people so alienated from the rest of the world really make friends with each?

And what could be more seasonally appropriate than bonding during an overnight trip at a beach house, or going to a festival and having a little “friendly” competition? It’s all good in theory, but there’s one thing this dysfunctional club can always count on: if something can go wrong, it will! In a whirlwind of festive fun and scary stories, Kodaka’s past may just come back to haunt him.
Ten years ago, Kodaka’s best – and only – friend was a kid he knew only as “Sora.” Now he finally knows that Yozora and Sora are the same person, but that doesn’t mean their friendship can pick up where it left off. And to make things more complicated, she’s known who he was all along and chose not to tell him. Despite all that, life in the Neighbors Club continues as always. There are elaborate new hairstyles to try out, and new kinds of anime to explore! It all sounds normal enough, but there’s one thing you can count on with the Neighbors Club, it’s that “normal” doesn’t apply!
Kodaka’s life hasn’t been easy since joining the Neighbors Club. Getting dragged into conversation by another strange nun was the last thing he needed. Then again, her advice seemed sound, until he discovered she was seriously twisted. Now her close ties to another member of the club will make it even harder for Kodaka to escape her. At this point, however, Kodaka is used to not being in control of his destiny. Whether it’s studying with Sena (and discovering an unnatural obsession!), or having Maria invade his home to fight with Kobato, Kodaka’s learned to go with the flow. Of course, this may not be the best approach to life, especially when it seems like other people are calling the shots for him!
The Neighbors Club may be a group of friendless misfits who can’t get the hang of socializing despite their best efforts, but at least they have each other to practice on! Sena’s continued attempts to make Kobato love her result in the entire club taking an outing to an amusement park, where they turn a death-defying roller coaster into a competition, while eating curry, and… getting kidnapped by demons?! But there’s more going on at the club these days than meets the eye. One of the girls has a surprise in store for everyone — including herself! And when Kodaka challenges Rika to make a truly impressive invention, the skeleton he and Yozora have been hiding may not stay in the closet for long!
Kobato’s birthday is coming up, so what better excuse for a party? For the Neighbors Club, a group of socially inept students with no clue how to make friends, it’s an opportunity for a practice party so they’ll know how to behave when they go to a real party… someday. Of course, a party calls for presents, so it’s time for a group shopping trip! Kodaka comes along to help the girls shop, but what our favorite misfits will come back with is anybody’s guess. Also on the horizon is the school festival, an opportunity for clubs to strut their stuff!
