Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends

Recent high school transfer student Hasegawa Kodaka is pathetically inept at making friends. Kodaka is an outcast, with his natural blonde hair which he inherited from his deceased English mother, and his unpleasant, fierce gaze. When he comes across the brash loner Mikazuki Yozora, who typically chats with her imaginary friend, the two outsiders become the unlikeliest of allies. Realizing that they have no hope of a normal social life, the two rejects decide to form a group called “The Neighbors Club” in order to make friends and maybe even learn a thing or two about social skills. As luck would have it, five new members join the club who are more socially awkward than they are. Will these quirky misfits ever make normal friends, or are they all doomed to social failure? The characters from both Haganai and Seitokai no Ichizon visit each others' clubroom in this two-part crossover. Strangely enough, the male protagonists from each manga do not make appearances. Chapter One: The Neighbor's Club gets a mysterious message from a certain student council! This chapter was drawn by Itachi, the artist of the Haganai manga. Chapter Two: The Hekiyou Gakuen student council receives an invitation from the Neighbor's Club to visit. This chapter was drawn by 10mo, the artist of the Seitokai no Ichizon manga.

A "what if" alternative version of the original story, on which the cast gets acquainted in a different manner. The basic premise is that Kodaka, a rude looking and easily misunderstood transfer student catches a glimpse from a conversation between Sena (the most popular girl on school) and "her friend" Renka (a character from a visual novel); after a short discussion followed, Sena decides to give it a try and make some friends with Kodaka's help. This is a tweak from the original premise, on which Kodaka catches Yozora speaking to her "air friend", and is Yozora the one who decides to start practicing how to make friends with Kodaka's help.

Like a bit of a homage to the novels, all of these starts off with a page or two of dialog. It’s actually a pretty nice way to fit in some back-story while still maintaining a good tits-no tits ratio for the pages. *Vol. 1* Sena promises she’ll introduce Kodaka to a potential friend, but in return she wants to play around with Kobato. Sena isn’t willing to compromise when it comes to her demands, so Kodaka suggests they’ll solve their dispute with a chicken race. Basically it’s a number of dares, and the first one to back down has to listen the the other one. *Vol. 2* Everything that could be considered story in this book is covered by the first two pages of dialog (lots of text in this one), and then it’s just one long sex scene. At least it has a serious message: It’s important to have safe sex… unless you’re out of contraceptives. Then it’s not so important anymore.
