A young lady, Yoko, whose voice was sealed away by a curse from a dog god when she was a child. Abandoned by her family, she lived her life confined. One day, Yoko attends a ball at the Rokumeikan in place of her younger sister and meets Klaus, a young German aristocrat. The two are drawn to each other, transcending the language barrier. Yoko is then rescued from her family home through Klaus's good offices, and for the first time, she gets to spend happy days at his mansion. Meanwhile, Klaus is unsettled by rumors of a man-eating beast in the imperial capital. Yoko, sensing something strange, worries about him. What could the word 'drug' that reaches her ears mean?
