In 1866, during a time of Catholic persecution in Hwayeonguk, a boy named Mum-Yeong lives abandoned and downtrodden. Born to a Baek-Jeong—an untouchable social caste forced to work as butchers and regarded as less than human—he does whatever it takes to survive, earning the cruel nickname "Dog Bastard." One day, Eun-Hak, a Catholic scholar, enters his life, and Mum-Yeong's slaughterhouse becomes a secret place of worship.
