Rurina Kurusu is a girl who transferred into school late in the year, and due to her indifferent attitude and the fact that she doesn't speak, she wasn't able to fit in well with the rest of the class. Meanwhile, Ritsu Kaburagi has an innate ability to hear what people are thinking, and uses that to flawlessly conduct himself in a way that he can live a trouble-free life. Seeing how well he apparently gets on in the world, Kurusu-san begins to gaze at him longingly and think, "I want to be friends with Kaburagi-kun!"
