Akaboshi Taka is a 16-year-old boy who loves to play soccer. After being abandoned by his father, he tries to find a job to support himself. His dream is to become a professional soccer player and he goes to every professional club in Japan to try his luck.
Kumagaya Gorou is a soccer-loving goalkeeper with abundant talents. On the day of the entrance examination for Yokohama Minami High School, a public school with a prestigious soccer team, Gorou has an accident and is forced to abandon the exam. He then has no choice but to enroll Kawasaki High School, a private school located just around the corner. The soccer team at Kawasaki High is weak, but Gorou does not give up and decides to transform the soccer team. He trains hard with his friends and aims to win the national championship. *Note: Chapter count includes a bonus epilogue (Sonogo no Offside) chapter in volume 29.*
In their early twenties, Mikami Toshiya and Hiraoka Keiji were mountain climbing partners. Over the next few years, though, Mikami chose having a family and stable career over his passion for mountain climbing. Now he has a wife and son, and he has turned his back on the mountains entirely. In doing so, he began to lose touch with Hiraoka, who continued to build his life around mountain climbing at the exclusion of all else. One day, news comes out that another peak over 8000 meters tall has been discovered in the Himalayas. Whoever is the first to successfully climb this peak will be allowed to name it. Hiraoka would like to try to be the first, but he can't climb the mountain alone. Mikami, on the other hand, is finding his dedication to his family over mountain climbing severely tested. Will Hiraoka and Mikami once again team up to take on this newest challenge?
