The story starts with Ogata Shinsaku, a homeless 17-year-old boy who was disowned by his father and head of a major company, Tatsumi Takaaki. One day, an old man appears and gives Shinsaku 100 million yen, urging him to use it as he sees fit, so he starts his own company to fight against his father's business empire.
In a tale set in the middle of the Meiji era, Shusuke Kano is doing hard labor in Hokkaido, imprisoned for demonstrating against the government for freedom and democracy. With the help of another inmate, Kazama, they will plan their escape. Both will carve their own paths shortly afterwards.
