It also adapts Tatsuo Hori's 1936–37 novelette of the same name, which follows the tentative relationship with a male narrator and Setsuko who suffers from encroaching tuberculosis.

The man defeated him with one blow of his weirdly shaped sword. The man turned out to be a blacksmith called Luke. The fateful encounter was the beginning of the adventure.

Zakkyo Jidai is about a girl called Kazuko who always puts on an act that she's a perfect, good girl. Prim and proper, people always think that her parents have the perfect daughter, but in fact it's all a facade. Kazuko loves her uncle Yuzuru who works as a professor in a college, and ever since she was little she's been planning to become his perfect wife... until one day her uncle announces to everyone that he's going to get married. Without her uncle around, Kazuko reveals her true self; uncaring, demanding, and short tempered. Chronicles the story of Dragon Quest VI The story begins with three travelers sitting around a fire. The leader says the time is right and the trio walks out to a nearby cliff. A young girl plays a flute, summons a dragon, and flies to the castle of Maou Mudo. The three enter and do not encounter any trouble until they reach the throne room. Mudo surprises them and seemingly kills the girl and the martial artist. After Mudo defeats the leader, Botsu, he wakes up at home in the village of Lifecod.

Bravely Default revolves around four young heroes of Luxendarc: the wind vestal, Agnès Oblige, who finds the wind crystal consumed in darkness; a mysterious vagrant named Ringabel with no memory of his past; Edea Lee of the Duchy of Eternia, who is sent on a mission to protect the world from a great evil; and a youth named Tiz Arrior who witnesses his brother and his hometown Norende being swallowed up by a great chasm. Coming to a week after Norende's destruction in the city of Caldisla, Tiz attempts to find survivors in the Norende Ravine. But he instead finds Agnès and Airy, a cryst-fairy who appears to be helping the vestal awaken the crystals out of their corruption which is causing natural calamities across Luxendarc. But Agnès is being pursued by the Knights of the Eternian Sky, who have been terrorizing Caldisla, and aim to keep the crystals from being awakened. Though Agnès refused his aid at first, Tiz manages to convince her to let him help her in her quest. Soon after, the two are joined by Ringabel and Edea, the latter disgusted with the Sky Knights' dishonorable actions while amazed to find the vestal not to be as evil as she was raised to believe.
