Astekaizer follows the exploits of Hoshi, a professional wrestler who could transform into Astekaizer, a champion of justice. Released alongside a relatively obscure TV show with the same name in 1976. The show was a mix of live-action (Tokusatsu) and animation, created by Go Nagai.

The story starts in 13th=century Daxingfu, the capital of the Jin Dynasty, a kingdom exhausted by the Mongol invasion. Nergui, a former slave boy and a prodigy who can learn any language, lost everything in the "first air raid in history" launched by the Mongol army.
