A simple domestic drama about expectations, fidelity, and escape. A couple purchase a beautiful white bird with a red beak. It is said that the bird will grow attached to its owners and never fly away. While the girlfriend is working as a hostess, flirting with men for money, the boyfriend decides to draw a portrait of the new family member, and disaster strikes.

A collection of short autobiographical stories from 1930s and 1940s, Terajima District, Tokyo, where mangaka's family ran a tavern.

A man peering voyeuristically at a nude woman bending and stretching alluringly for him. 

According to Holmberg, the English translator, this one-shot was drawn shortly after Tsurita received her diagnosis of Lupus. This short story can therefore be seen as an allegory for the inevitability of death and equally for the author's deteriorating state.
