College student Shizuku Minase has never been anything but ordinary. For all her eighteen years, she has been overshadowed by her sisters’ confidence and charm. However, her life changes forever when she’s abruptly spirited away to a world of magic and terrible danger. There, she meets Erik, a handsome young man who studies this land’s magic script. He offers to help her find a way back to Earth, but in exchange, he wants her to teach him Japanese. With their bargain struck, the pair sets out for Farsas, the kingdom of magic, beginning an adventure of fantasy and language.

Single-minded optimist Shizuka and quick-witted mage Eric must brave forbidden sorcery in Candela Castle and all manner of other dangers to reach their destination, the Magic Kingdom of Farsus. Hoping to find some hint as to how to return to Japan there, they manage to receive an audience with King Lars where, in a terrible twist, Shizuku is declared an unacceptable anomaly. Will she be able to convince Lars of her humanity? And why does Eric seem to know the inside of Farsus Castle so well?

The pair sets out to continue their journey, when a messenger suddenly arrives inviting Shizuku to the great nation of Kisk—a place long plagued by unpleasant rumors. There, as playmate for the notoriously cruel “Demon Princess” Ortia, she is given the important task of coming up with a method to treat the speech disorder illness sweeping the continent. Without her protector, Erik, Shizuku must search for a solution alone...but failure means a gruesome death!
