Jujutsu practitioner Kii-Ta-ryu Ryu Akisui left the regret of his defeat to his only son, Kankuro, when he challenged Kano Jigoro, the founder of Kodokan judo in Japan. Therefore, Akimizu and Kankuro start training intensively, day after day. The exhausting training continues until Kankuro be 19 years old. Later, following orders fromAkimizu, Kankuro leaves his home in Kokura, Kyushu, for Tokyo. The day he comes to Tokyo to visit Kihei Ryu's master, Matsushiba Kyuzo, corresponds to the day of celebrations of the victory of the Russo-Japanese War. This is the third installment in the series following "Showa Jukyouden" by Baron Yoshimoto, the author of the well-known "Jukyouden" series. The protagonist is Yanagi Kanichi, the third generation of the Yanagi family, and the son of Yanagi Kantaro (who, needless to say, is the protagonist of "Showa Jukyouden"). This first volume focuses on the young Kanichi, living cheerfully, brightly, and resilient through the tumultuous and chaotic postwar era. The "burnt-out black market" era immediately after the war is a story set a long time ago, but Baron's masterful storytelling delivers this thrilling work with accurate historical research and a brilliant story development.
