Three apprentice daoshi monks of Shenxian Village—Xiaohu, Chaoyun, and Jiuli—have completed five years of training and are to face their last trial. They only have one chance to attempt the test, and only one of the three can pass. During the trial, Chaoyun is badly wounded by the jiangshi they were tasked to defeat. If they retreat with Chaoyun, his life can be saved, but they will all fail the test. In the end, will they choose themselves or their friend?
On their way home from a mission, Xiaohu and his friends discover a giant stake they’ve never seen before. Feeling eerie apprehension, the trio decides to investigate. They sneak into the library and learn that the stake is a secret, malevolent spell of an esoteric sect known as the Wu Dou Jiu Dao. But what awaits them when they go to warn the other monks?
While accompanying Lady Jiutian to the legendary Shenxian Village, Xiaohu and the others take a pitstop at a hidden outpost to rest.
