A penniless student yearns to buy an expensive book that he can’t afford until a small ill-gotten fortune falls into his lap.

It is said that the bird will grow attached to its owners and never fly away. A simple rural encounter is charged with sexual tension that is alluring but also fraught with danger. When a young woman happens upon a wing-shot goose, she tries to calm it then suddenly snaps its neck. Later, she befriends a young hunter and offers him shelter, but her motivations remain unclear, especially when the hunter notices a snake in the room where they’ll both be sleeping. "It is said that salamanders have no memory of the past because of the polluted water." This work follows a salamander waking up in a sewer with no recollection of the past, but out of place, as if they were reborn as a completely different creature. A surreal, avant-garde two-colour printed manga work based on Yoshiharu Tsuge's experience traveling to Futomi in Chiba prefecture. It is especially famous among the works of Tsuge and had a great influence not only on the Japanese manga world but also on many other fields.
