Description

Since the beginning of the 20th century, all wars have had their share of aviators. Initially observers, they became important, even major, players in conflicts. Seiho Takizawa takes us from World War I to the Iran-Iraq War in the early 1980s, bringing us closer than ever to the combatants in the skies. A major new work from one of Japan's masters of aviation storytelling! Shah's pilot is based on the accounts of Iranian F-14 pilots during the Iran-Iraq War, a little-known story. The F-14 Tomcat, an American-built fighter jet that can be admired in the film Top Gun, was the spearhead of the Iranian air force, with 79 aircraft delivered by the United States just before the 1979 revolution that saw the Shah of Iran ousted from power by Islamists. The other stories also focus on little-known military exploits, such as the epic tale of the Messerschmitt Me 323 Gigant in the Mediterranean and Count von Rosen's involvement in air combat in Africa in the 1970s.
