Gendai Comic: Tsuge Yoshiharu

A grisly tale of a crematorium worker who burned his coworker alive in the furnace, later confessing in a letter to a boy who was accidentally given some of the wrong remains.

A penniless student yearns to buy an expensive book that he can’t afford until a small ill-gotten fortune falls into his lap.

A kunoichi plays a long con against a brutish samurai lord, spending years in his detention to fulfill her contract.

This tale is set at a small hot springs inn where a samurai is relaxing when he is asked to share his room. His new roommate appears to be none other than Musashi Miyamoto.

A simple domestic drama about expectations, fidelity, and escape. A couple purchase a beautiful white bird with a red beak. It is said that the bird will grow attached to its owners and never fly away. While the girlfriend is working as a hostess, flirting with men for money, the boyfriend decides to draw a portrait of the new family member, and disaster strikes.

A man finds a picture scroll and tries to understand the iconography. Everyone who encounters the scroll sees something different, but the initial man thinks it's a map and he follows it as such until he eventually find the scroll's artist.

It was a terrible sandstorm. Tourists got stuck in a big hole in the desert and run out of water and food under the blazing sun. The story exposes the true nature of human beings under such extreme conditions.

A surreal, avant-garde two-colour printed manga work based on Yoshiharu Tsuge's experience traveling to Futomi in Chiba prefecture. It is especially famous among the works of Tsuge and had a great influence not only on the Japanese manga world but also on many other fields.
