The Vampire and His Pleasant Companions

Since becoming a vampire, Albert’s life has fallen into an unchanging cycle-day to night, bat to vampire, USA to…Japan? After a mishap at a meat-processing plant in Nebraska, bat-Al is flash-frozen alongside his midday snack and shipped to a foreign land! Explaining to police how he really ended up wandering naked is out of the question, not to mention he doesn’t know a word of Japanese! Al will have to rely on the kindness (?) of his new companions if he’s going to get by in Tokyo-that is, if he can convince them he’s the bat!

When he is brutally attacked in the park Al’s vampiric nature is the only thing that prevents him from becoming the latest death in a string of serial stabbings. Ever since becoming a vampire, Al has always felt like a burden on the people around him-especially Akira. This time, his unique abilities will be an asset in helping the police track down his would-be killer. Surely even Akira can’t fail to be impressed by the great bat detective!

After several months in Japan, Al is becoming accustomed to life on the far side of Asia. Living and working with Akira-though not without its spats and squabbles-has given him a place to belong for the first time since he became a vampire. But when a new assistant arrives at the Old Memorial Center and falls hard for Akira, Al realizes how quickly he could find himself alone again should Akira change his mind. Though discerning Akira’s true feelings-apart from annoyance-seems near impossible, Al might not have another choice...

Aaaand-ACTION! Thanks to a persistent producer and a stubborn starlet, Al has landed his dream job as an actor! But he quickly learns that show business can be cutthroat-literally. When one of his new costars is found dead, Al’s vampiric powers lead him straight to the perpetrator. But the testimony of a vampire is no-good without hard evidence! Once again, Al is hot on the trail of a murderer…and heading straight into danger!

The late-night drama starring Al the vampire may have ended, but his career as an actor has only just begun. When Al is asked to reprise his role in the sequel (this time with filming done in America), he can’t help but jump at the opportunity. After all, a trip to the United States means a long-awaited chance to return to his hometown! But if he wants to secure the part, he’ll have to get through Akira first, and the gloomy embalmer doesn’t seem too keen on having Al’s face on the big screen again…

After a few hiccups on the way, Al and Akira finally arrive in Chicago, where Al’s TV show will be filmed. There, Al is in for a thrilling surprise—turns out they’ll be lodging with the movie producer he idolizes, Richard Carlisle! And when Richard decides to tag along and watch their shoot, Al feels it’s a dream come true. However, dreams soon dissolve into nightmares as a strange man attacks Richard in the dead of night. Al is determined to catch the criminal…but will this encounter prove too dangerous for even a vampire to handle?
