500 years before the story of Saiyuki, a heretic child with golden eyes is brought into Heaven. He is given into the reluctant care of a minor deity named Konzen, the nephew of the Merciful Goddess Kanzeon Bosatsu. Konzen eventually gives the child the name "Goku". Goku becomes friends with two other minor gods, Marshal Tenpou and General Kenren of the Western Army of Heaven. He also meets a strange little boy who seems to be his own age, the War Prince Nataku. Although Goku is happy in his new home, Heaven is not kind to heretics. There are those who would use Nataku and Goku as tools in an attempt to seize the throne of Heaven, and Konzen, Tenpou, and Kenren may not be able to save them. (Source: Anime News Network)

The fearsome foursome continue their journey west towards Shangri-La, encountering new challenges and new adventures along the way. Their legend precedes them, but not always in the way one might expect. The Minus Wave that apparently drove all the youkai in the land mad looks like it might have missed one, as Sanzo, Gojyo, Hakkai and Goku meet a lone guardian and the band of children he cares for. Fear and misunderstanding run throughout this particular leg of the journey, including between the members of the Sanzo group! (Source: TOKYOPOP)
Saiyuki Offroad is a digression from the Saiyuki manga. Just like all the other manga of the saga, Minekura Kazuya and her assistants who did the art.[1] There are two parts to the manga. The first one (the Homura one shot) appeared on the early years of Saiyuki in G-Fantasy and has been inserted in some limited edition Volumes of Saiyuki Gaiden, while the second one was presented as a an official doujinshi when Ichijinsha joined the Comiket in 2005. The 2 parts have been joined together in a very special cover and was sold at the event. Later on the unnamed chapter resurface on some limited edition Saiyuki Reload volumes as extra. While recovering from surgery, Minekura Kazuya is asked by the Zero-Sum editor-in-chief Koyagi to create a series of illustrations for the manga magazine Zero-Sum Ward. To create a theme, Koyagi rolls four dice: two hold character names, one holds a situation, and the last holds an action. With each roll, characters are placed in strange situations, much to Minekura's chagrin.
