Higurashi WHEN THEY CRY: Atonement Arc

After moving into the quiet town of Hinamizawa, Maebara Keiichi spends his days blissfully in school often playing games with his local friends. However, appearances can be deceiving. One fateful day, Keiichi stumbles upon news of a murder that had occurred in Hinamizawa. From this point on, horrific events unfold in front of Keiichi, as he soon learns his close friends may not be all that they seem. Based on the amateur mystery game by 7th Expansion, the story is told in a series of different scenarios. Meakashi is the fifth in a series of manga following the different scenarios of the Higurashi games and the first scenario that aims to answer questions raised in the previous scenarios. It focuses on seemingly the same happenings as in Watanagashi-hen only told from Shion Sonozaki's point of view.

In the twenty years since the Hinamizawa disaster, the small village has become a literal ghost town. Terrible rumors about the mysterious gas leak that claimed hundreds of lives have kept even the most curious at bay. But on this night, fate has led five strangers to the abandoned mountain hamlet—among them a certain Mion Sonozaki. This is regarded as the chapter where "the best situation has been provided," but it takes the courage of a certain character to change the course. This will answer everything, however there is one chapter left - Matsuribayashi-hen. (Source: Wikipedia)

Tsumiboroshi-hen is the answer arc corresponding to Onikakushi-hen. Unlike Meakashi-hen, Tsumihoroboshi-hen's story is drastically different from the plot of its question arc. In Tsumihoroboshi-hen, Rena experiences a situation similar to Keiichi's in Onikakushi-hen, as she makes a terrible mistake and becomes distrustful of her former friends. It is the first chapter with a (seemingly) happy ending, although the Tips reveal a sinister twist.
