Haruka Haruno attends the Noble Academy boarding school and cherishes her dreams of becoming a princess. One day, she encounters two fairy creatures from the Hope Kingdom: Pafu and Aroma, who are followed by the monsters created by Dyspear, who wants to bring despair to the world by locking dreams away in the Gate of Desperation. The fairies give Haruka a Princess Perfume and she becomes Cure Flora. Later joined by Minami Kaido and Kirara Amanogawa, as Cure Mermaid and Cure Twinkle, Haruka forms the Princess PreCure Team to collect Dress-Up Keys needed to open the Gate of Dreams while protecting people's dreams from Dys Dark's forces.

Mirai is a 13-year-old girl who lives in the human world. One day she witnesses a mysterious object fall from the sky into the park. Excitedly, she brings her stuffed bear Mofurun with her to see what it was. When she gets there she sees a girl named Riko flying on a broom. Riko is of the same age and from the magical world. Mirai has a lot of questions, and Riko explains that she's searching for a jewel with strong powers called "Link Stone Emerald." Then Batti, an ally of the dark magic users Dokurokushi, appears before them and demands that Riko hand over the "Link Stone Emerald," which Riko herself had been looking for. To make things worse, Batti uses dark magic to create a monster known as a Yokubaru! The story begins when the protagonist Hikaru meets aliens Lala, Prunce, and Fuwa while watching the night sky. She learns of the "Star Palace," where the 12 Star Princesses of the constellations kept the balance of the universe until they were attacked. Lala is searching for the legendary Precure warriors to help find the 12 scattered "Princess Star Color Pens" and revive the princesses. When Fuwa is captured by an enemy, Hikaru wishes to save Fuwa, and a Star Color Pendent and a Star Color Pen appear to allow her to transform into Cure Star. From then on she works to collect the pens and raise Fuwa, who is the key to reviving the princesses. *Note: The chapter count includes 2 extra chapters.*

Deep inside the Earth lies a magical place called the "Healing Garden", which cared for the planet for centuries and is been protected by animal-like fairies named "Healing Animals". However, the garden was attacked by the antagonistic group called Bjögens whose goal is to infect the garden and slowly poison the planet.
