Maria Mantegazza is an aviator in interwar Europe. Employed by an Italian airline company that transports people and couriers, she goes on a mission to the four corners of the world in the hope of finding her English father, an agent of the British secret service, whose whereabouts have been lost.

The title story tells the experience of a Japanese fighter pilot who shoots down a strange fireball over Japan during WWII.
