Ochikubo Monogatari (落窪物語), also known as The Tale of Ochikubo, is a story from the Heian period which is similar to the famous fairy tale Cinderella. After suffering from relentless harassment from her stepmother, Princess Ochikubo meets a man named Michiyori who is a general. The two marry and Princess Ochikubo lives very happily with him. Michiyori starts to take revenge on Princess Ochikubo's family, setting up a series of humiliating events. Adapted into manga by Eiko Hanamura for the Manga Nihon no Koten series, wherein several acclaimed manga artists adapted classic Japanese literature from the Heian to Edo period.

APPLE PIE is a bar attached to a liquor store. It serves alcoholic drinks and sweets to go with them. Shino Mizuhara, a sweet-toothed woman who drinks and loves sweets, stops by on her way home from work. She encounters an unexpected pairing of alcohol and sweets at this bar, which is frequented by a unique group of people, including the bar owner Yukimura.
