With her father being laid off recently, Maeda Sato recently moved to the country from Tokyo with her family. She witnesses a murder scene where a teenage boy takes the soul of another person. The police arrive to investigate but after learning “Gokurakumaru” was behind it, the police quickly dismiss it. Still confused about the situation, Sato goes to her new school where she learns that the teenage boy who she thought was a murderer is her classmate. She quickly learns that the boy Gokurakumaru Makoto is the 16th generation in a long family line of Gokurakumaru that travel between the living world and the dead world. People commit suicide because their soul is heavy with waste. The Gokurakumaru family helps those people by cleaning and wiping the slate on their soul clean. Gokurakumaru Makoto is now in training and must open a series of gates on the spirit side by completing missions. Now Sato must help Makoto become the new Gokurakumaru and help people in need!
