A short story published in the magazine "Weekly Shonen King" in September 1974 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Tezuka Osamu's career as a mangaka. It is a semi-autobiographical manga that depicts Tezuka's main character, Tetsuro Osamu, modeled after Tezuka himself, who desperately lives his life with a passion for manga while the war intensifies day by day at the end of the Pacific War. In the postscript to the Kodansha edition of Tezuka Osamu's Complete Manga Collection, Tezuka wrote that the manga "contains a great deal of fiction", but many of the events depicted in the manga are based on his own experiences, which he also wrote about in his essays and other writings.

Tezuka manga serialised in Hitomi, included in the last volume of Boku no Son Goku (MT-019) of the Tezuka collected manga works reprint by Kodansha.

The earliest incarnation of what would eventually become Tezuka’s epic masterpiece, Phoenix \[Manga Shonen\] (1954-55) was Tezuka’s follow-up series to the popular Jungle Emperor (1950-54) in Manga Shonen. It began publication in July 1954 and ran until the magazine suddenly folded in May 1955, unfortunately leaving the work unfinished after just eight instalments. In a mythical age of ancient Japan, Nagi Iza, a young boy living on one of the southern islands, is on a quest to find the legendary Phoenix and save his dying father. Believing the magical healing properties of the blood of the mysterious bird is the only way to cure his father, Nagi sets off on a mission to climb up Fire Mountain, a local volcano and the home of the Phoenix.

One morning, when he woke up, Saburo found himself suspended in an empty void, his own room nowhere to be seen. The next day, land and stars would appear, and the day after that, the sea. A story of a strange friendship between Yamataro, a koala bear who lost his parent in an accident and a mountain hunt that was kept by humans, and a steam locomotive named Shiroku. Shiroku, which is a symbol of a power that transcends human beings even though it was created by humans, teaches Yamataro the preciousness of the power of the wild and the dignity of a bear.

This tells the story of two brothers, one a cop and the other an aspiring songwriter, who find themselves mixed up in the student protests of the late 1960's in Japan that are being led by a Christ-like folk singer.
