A young man and his friend, self-proclaimed nihilists, set out on a two-seater motorcycle to swim in Chikura, Chiba Prefecture, but get lost at dusk. Along the way, they met a vendor from Yamanashi, who introduced them to an old woman who lived alone, and together they stayed at her farmhouse. The group drank whiskey on the old woman's recommendation, and after the old woman fell asleep, the peddler told them of his tearful story. *Note: Published in Weekly Manga Sunday (April 1975).*
This comic depicts a kind of piecemeal post-war commune, one that hosts drifters, con men, and other lost souls. Its inhabitants live in makeshift huts on a grassy plain that was once a military site, bombed and destroyed by US pilots. (Source: The Comics Journal)
