This is the story of Natsunosuke Honda, a pro baseball player – a relief pitcher who has been playing pro in a team called Spiders for 8 years and is one of the highest paid players in the game. He measures how good players are by how much money they make, and he intends to be on top and stay there, and as such is always looking for players to challenge and does everything to insure that he is better than they are.
Kataribanashi-hen is an anthology, illustrated by several artists. The stories are fanfictions, submitted for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Awards.
Meet Abo Ozawa, ace pitcher. He can’t seem to make up his mind, on or off the baseball diamond. Off the field, he finds himself pulled in either direction by two lifelong friends. On one hand, there is the cute-but-fiery Hana Eguchi, who’s also an ace pitcher, even more famous, and constantly assaulted by reporters and talent scouts. There’s just no controlling this girl. On the other hand, there is the cute-but-controlled Noriko “Norippe” Asai. The third member of the trio, she finds herself overshadowed by her two friends. As events unfold, will he be able to choose between them? But Abo’s mind is on baseball, and he doesn’t have time to deal with these problems. Or does he? On the pitcher’s mound, on the one hand, his left arm has the control to put the ball right where he wants to with absolutely perfect precision. And on the other hand, his right arm is a powerful uncontrolled monster that flails fireballs at the plate too fast to see. Which glove should he wear? The manga takes place around the 1950's, when weekly manga magazines still didn't exist. A manga creator who is somewhat popular with three serializations tells people he thinks Osamu Tezuka's manga are boring, but secretly collects all of his works. He makes a one-sided rivalry with Tezuka, and seeks to surpass him. (Source: Anime News Network)

As pitching aces for the same team, the two had a legendary rivalry unparalleled in Japanese baseball history. With two real personages as his protagonists, the author based his bold interweaving of fact and conjecture on exhaustive interviews with Nishimoto and other featured individuals.
