There are two kinds: Melmo can grow 10 years older to become any sort of adult she wishes by eating a blue candy. By eating a red one, she can become 10 years younger. Using these miracle candies, Melmo disguises herself as a nurse, schoolteacher, policewoman, and overcomes troubles together with her brother, Totoo.

Isami's father was a chemistry professor who left behind a ear of a rabbit which would make the brains of a human work considerably faster. Prof. Frankenstein succeeds in the experiment which transforms the the ear into a human being. Isami, intent on revenging his parents, volunteers as test pilot for earth-penetrating train Luna Park III invented by the designer Sullivan along several other people , including his pet rabbit who was transformed into a human being.
Set in Hokkaido in the early Meiji era, the protagonist is a man who is wild and has a sword arm. He was originally an indigenous person, but he respected and interacted with Ainu Aborigines.
